Approved rate increases ranged from less than 1% to nearly 30%. Over 92% of the private passenger vehicle market in Alberta submitted for a rate change for increasing premiums. Property insurance has not only seen dramatic premium increases, but substantial changes to coverage. Can't get a payment plan for your insurance policy? That is also becoming a norm.
So, well many in Alberta are struggling right now, the increased cost of insurance makes it even more difficult. Many insureds look to direct insurance companies, not insurance brokers. That may not be the best option. Direct Insurance Companies:

If you are Canadian living in Arizona whether permanently or seasonally you will realize very quickly that insurance in Arizona is very different and can be very confusing. When I purchased my own vehicle and property insurance in Arizona my agent thought it was crazy, I was asking for 1,000,000 Liability on our vehicle. That’s because that is the standard in most provinces in Canada.
The minimum standard in Arizona is 15,000/30,000/10,000. First, what’s with the split liability? What does that even mean? Arizona insurance states Bodily injury liability coverage: Minimum $15,000 per person / $30,000 per accident. Property damage liability coverage: Minimum $10,000. Split liability isn’t even a thing in Canada…period. Imagine being in an accident with a driver that carries these limits. How would you be protected in a claim exceeding these amounts. What happens if you are hit by a driver that carries no insurance, then what? That’s where underinsured and uninsured limits come into play on your policy in Arizona. This isn’t even a term or endorsement in Canada. Now let’s talk about property insurance. Standard on policies in Canada are Guaranteed Replacement Cost. Most insureds in Arizona don’t even realize very few markets even offer this coverage and without it how much is your house insured really insured for if you had a total loss? In Canada standard liability is again 1,000,000 on property policies. Not so in Arizona. I have seen limits drastically lower on Arizona policies. The impact of that as a homeowner could be very devastating in a claim. Arizona communities are largely part of an HOA. Did you know that even if you don’t have a condo and have a house in an HOA you should have coverage for Loss Assessment? I am a Canadian living in Arizona. I have been a licensed agent in Canada for 25 years, and now also licensed in Arizona. Since I am an insurance agent, I knew what to ask for when purchasing my first insurance in Arizona 10 years ago. Canadians I think you need an insurance agent that has knowledge on both sides of the border. Contact me. |
